Sometimes the best therapy comes from our companions; horses. We look to them for emotional support; without the fear of being judged.

With all the hassles of life, you may feel overwhelmed and backed into a corner. You look to your friends and family for support but, they can’t always give you what you need. At times, the best thing you can do is turn to your horses for the emotional support you seek.

Horses are great listeners

When your trust your emotions and feelings to your horses, you do so knowing they cannot and will not tell anyone. Horses are great listeners and even though they cannot verbally speak, they do understand. By spending time with them, they learn when you are sad, happy, scared, and mad. They learn to read your body language and listen to your tone of voice.

You can spill your guts to your horses and tell them anything. Horses will listen patiently while offering a great shoulder to lean on. They will never judge you or use anything against you. Humans on the other hand, can be judgmental, cruel, and lack the emotional support you need. Unlike a lot of humans, horses are true, through and through. Horses are honest animals and usually don’t hide their emotions. They do not have the ability to judge you like a human can. They listen patiently and ask for very little in return.

Allow horses to help with your emotions

The simple act of petting/brushing your horses while talking out your problems can be a huge stress reliever. By being verbal with them, they learn your tone of voice and understand your body language. Your tone of voice can also come in handy when the horse is stressed. Because he or she understands your voice, a simple soothing tone can bring his or her mind back to where it belongs. In times of distress, you can lean on each other for emotional and moral support.

Instead of turning to drugs or alcohol, you should allow horses to help you get through the hard times. Spend time talking to and getting to know your horses. Horses make great therapist plus, they don’t charge you by the hour.

Don’t ever feel embarrassed for talking to your horses. Anyone who would make fun of you for doing so, doesn’t understand the benefits of having horses for companions.

When you spend time with your horse, slow your mind and take in your environment. Listen to how quiet everything is around you. Sometimes, all you need to relieve stress is the silence and physical feel of your horse.
